Surviving Broken

Surviving Broken ~ A Mathews Family Novel
~ Sometimes you have to go through hell to find your heaven ~

Releasing September 29, 2014

SYNOPSIS:

Most women have a wish list when it comes to what kind of man they want to date. JC Mathews used a strict set of guidelines as a safety net to keep herself out of trouble and out of love.

On hiatus from the bright lights and speculative gazes of her career in the fashion industry, JC lets her guard down...only to the wrong man. After escaping Italy and the hands of her abuser, she returns to Malibu to recover. The last thing she expects to find is a large, gorgeous intruder swimming naked in her pool.

Reed Rider left Texas and his broken heart behind in order to settle his aunt’s affairs after her death. Seeking refuge from the California heat for a midnight swim in his neighbor’s backyard, he never expects to find a nude silhouette of a long-haired beauty standing at the water’s edge.

As their passion ignites and the pages of JC's rulebook fade to grey, she unlocks her guarded heart to begin a new chapter in her life. When hidden truths are exposed and secrets unravel, will they survive the threats from their broken pasts?

REVIEW:

Well I'm a blubbering mess right now after just finishing this wonderful and emotionally charged book. JC comes from a supportive family but this isn't enough to stop bad things from happening, but their support and her strength allow her to get over and move on from the bad things. Reed, well hold onto your hats he is one hunky Texan who has stolen my heart and is attempting to steal JC's. They have to overcome family drama, paparazzi, an abusive ex and their own insecurities. They are a perfectly matched couple who deserve their happily ever after! I love this author and this series and all the family members. This is an author who deserves this book to be a best seller! Easy to award it 5 stars ~ Rosie

Synopsis

When the boy you love asks you to keep his greatest secret, do you? A thought-provoking, achingly complex novel about prejudice and the many meanings of love from Nina de Gramont, author of Meet Me at the River, which Kirkus Reviews called a “must-read.”

Sixteen-year-old Wren has been content to stay in her best friend Allie’s shadow. It doesn’t bother her that Ally gets the cutest guys, the cutest clothes, and even a modeling gig—Wren is happy hanging with the horses on her family’s farm and avoiding the jealousy of other girls. But when Tim, the most intriguing guy in school, starts hanging out with Ally and Wren, jealousy is unavoidable, but not the kind Wren expects. Because even though Ally is way into him and Wren hasn’t flirted, not one little bit, it becomes increasingly clear that Tim prefers Wren’s company above anyone else’s.

Tim’s unexpected devotion comes at the exact time Wren’s home life is about to be turned upside down. But at least there is Tim...always a gentleman and ever dependable. But as his own seemingly perfect world comes spiraling down around him and he tells Wren his biggest secret, Wren must decide what she’ll really do for love.

Saying “I love you'' doesn’t erase the old scars and fears. "I love you to insanity. I'm not even sure if it's a good thing.'' — Duke Skye is trying to overcome what happened with Sean. Now that she’s slowly healing, both physically and mentally, she’s determined to do something she should have done sooner. She’s meeting twice a week with a new, very young therapist, Dr. Marshall. There, she’s able to talk freely, unwind, and question things. Most of the sessions she talks about herself and her hangups, along with her relationship with Duke, which is still on rocky ground.

"I want to taste his sweat. I want to hear his groans. I want to feel him inside of me.'' — Skye But while Skye is slowly getting back on her feet, Duke feels like he's drowning. He’s afraid of pushing her too much, of initiating intimacy, and it’s weighing between them. Moreover, knowing that he's not the one she’s talking to anymore is making him feel things he never thought possible. "It’s a matter of when I’ll stop fighting." — Duke As days pass, Duke is showing over and over how vulnerable he truly is and how Skye has more power over him than she ever imagined. When Skye sees how they keep hurting each other, she’s determined to do everything in her power to make things right, no matter what the cost. But one thing is still sure; she can count on Duke whenever she needs him, even if they disagree and fight. When Duke loves, he loves with everything he’s made of, the good and the bad.

"Loving her is confusing, making me afraid of myself and what I can do ... because I can break us both." — Duke

In Patch Up and Fix Up you had Skye and Duke’s story. Now, it’s time for Derek and Kate to find their path. He fights for the people he loves. She fights against love.

Kate Andrews is starting her second year of college in Seattle. She is happy to leave Chicago and her dysfunctional family behind to be with her friends again. Growing up she thought that her parents' loveless marriage was all her father’s fault, but that summer she discovered that things are so much more complicated in life and love. Her mother is bipolar. That doesn’t mean her father isn’t unfaithful, nor does he support her and her choices. Additionally, he isn't a great father or husband, but it brings a new perspective in her life; the way she envisions love. Derek Williams graduated college a few months ago, and while he moved back in again with his single mother and teenage brother, he never thought that he would be struggling with two crappy jobs. He is not succeeding in either of his jobs or in his countless plans for the future. Instead, he’s trying to bring back his brother and set him on a straight path, while trying to avoid the wrong crowd hounding him, thanks to his brother. Together with fighting his mother on her lack of support in their family, this all has caused chaos. “Yes, my life is a fucking mess. I have nothing for that girl who deserves everything, and yet I still can’t just sit on my ass and wait for the next asshole to pursue her.‘' — DEREK

Synopsis
Every lie, no matter how small, has some degree of truth.

Five months after moving to New York City, Emily is engaged to Blake Carson, future doctor and the man who she believes to be the love of her life. Until she starts to realize that the foundation upon which she’s building her future is based on a series of Blake’s self-serving lies.

Blake can’t let her go. He can’t continue to deceive Emily, either. But Blake’s biggest problem is that he has to maintain the life he has become accustomed to, at any cost. And that means keeping his overbearing mother happy, and keeping Emily ignorant.

Tyler Carson left New York City two years ago, happy to leave behind all of the Carson family drama. Until he comes home and meets Emily. Falling in love with his brother’s fiancée was easy. Protecting her from his family was necessary. Leaving her was almost impossible, knowing that he was breaking her heart, and his own.

Finding solace in her friendship with Tyler, Emily is forced to face the reality that Blake is not the man she thought he was. But neither is Tyler, the friend who gave her the clarity she needed, and then left her alone to pick up the shattered pieces of her life. Heartbroken and deserted, Emily has had enough of the Carson brothers.

But sometimes, love is not that which sends us soaring, but that which keeps us grounded. Can Emily ever bring herself to love another Carson completely?

Secrets, lies and lust-filled nights, all in the name of the screwed-up pursuit of happily ever after, Scared of Forever is the second novel in the Scared Series, which features characters from Scared of Beautiful, but can be read as a standalone.

Excerpt
See, this is what annoys me. I don’t care
if a guy is checking me out. Not tonight anyway. I’m just here to say goodbye
to people I’ve come to love over the years. This night isn’t about getting laid
and after this morning I feel that I need to tone it back. The ‘clingers’ are
just getting too frequent.
I think all of this in the second it
takes me to turn my head (like I’m just looking around the bar) and then my
eyes lock on a delicious slice of heaven sent straight from the Gods. And he is
looking right at me. I try to keep my composure, but my body’s reaction to him
is instantaneous. Everything tightens. Especially my super-secret places.
Even sitting I can tell that he’s tall,
very tall, has short dark hair that stands up in different directions, like he
runs his hands through it a lot. His jaw is perfectly square and clean shaven;
his nose straight, with what appears to be a slight bump on the bridge that
adds character to his face. His body is lean and clearly defined in a maroon
shirt that is tight around his arms, chest and shoulders. His skin is a golden
tan color, and somehow I can tell that he must work outside a lot. He doesn’t
seem the type to lay in a tanning bed. His legs look long and powerful in a
pair of faded jeans that had to have been designed just for him. He may be
fully clothed, but I can tell that he is an exquisite package of pure
muscle.
His eyes lazily work their way up my
body, causing me to shiver, until they stop to look into mine. I can feel
myself panting, like a dog in heat, and I would be embarrassed if it wasn’t for
the fact that he obviously notices, and a slow, sexy, half grin spreads across
his face.
I immediately take back every negative
thing I have ever said about half grins in my life. They are the sexiest
fucking things God ever deemed necessary to give to man. My ‘gina agrees whole
heartedly as it begins to (literally) quiver.
After a few minutes in Swoonville, I
decide that my night of ‘no sex’ was just a delusional thought, during a weak
moment. I turn back to my friends, smile at them, pick up my drink and walk
towards the bar. I don’t feel bad about not saying goodbye to them; they know
how it is.
I sidle up to the bar and take a seat
next to him, surprised it isn’t already taken, and lift my bottle of beer up
towards the bartender, like that was my purpose for coming over here in the
first place. I can see his smile deepen through my peripheral vision. Well, at
least he’s not dense and can figure out what I’m doing. Hopefully, he plays
along…
The bartender brings my beer and sets it
down in front of me. I reach in my pocket to pull out money, but Mr. Sexy Half
Grin places a five on the bar stating, “I’ve got it.” Thank God
I turn to him and smile, “Thanks.”
He turns his body towards me and smiles,
full on. No half smile. Just a full playful smile and I’m pretty sure my vagina
has a seizure.
“Well, that’s the way the game is played,
right?” he asks me straight out. How rude!
“You know, you shouldn’t point it out,” I
inform him. “It’s rude and could wound my girlie pride.”
He chuckles, annnd… another seizure for
my ‘gina.
“I have a feeling you can take it,” he
says lifting his beer to his mouth.
Yeah, I can take it. I could take it
all.
Wow. Those lips are fucking sexy. Like,
sexy, sexy. World Peace could be made with those lips.
“What’s your name?” he asks me.
“Ree,” I reach out my hand to shake his.
“Ree?” he asks grabbing my hand, not
shaking it. Just holding it, making electricity shoot up my arm.
“Yeah,” I sigh, exhausted from having to
explain this to everyone I meet, “It’s short for Azaria.”
“That’s a beautiful name,” he says in all
seriousness and my eyes widen incredulously, “What’s wrong with it?”
“It’s ridiculous. My parents must have
been high when they named me,” I explain, what I think is, unnecessarily; my
mind

notices that he is still holding my hand and I
don’t even care.
  “What’s your name?” I
ask him.

MeetTheAuthor
My first book, Darkness Deserved, released July of 2013. It is the first book in the Shattering the Darkness Series.
I'm crazy and love my friends, family and booze.
I used to never read when I was growing up. My mother always tried to get me to read and I wanted no part in it. I figured why read when it's going to be a movie? (Yes, like I said crazy.)
Well a few years ago I jumped on the Twilight band wagon. I've always loved supernatural movies and when I saw the previews I knew I wanted to see it. And see it I did. I immediately went out and bought the books and became hooked.
They came to me at a very special time in my life.
I discovered I loved to read and found my nitch in the paranormal and romance genre. I started a book club with a cousin and all of a sudden these thoughts kept assaulting my brain.
So I wrote them down. Then, deciding that I wanted to write, I contacted some wonderfully amazing women who helped me through the process.
I now have three books under my belt and am still learning constantly.
My Life Series, is by far my favorite to write. There are some events in the story that are based on actual events that have happened in my life.
I hope you enjoy reading them as much as I enjoyed living them.
