Review of Reckless by Devon Hartford

Review
Reckless by Devon Hartford is book 2 in his series, The Story of Samantha Smith, and I was not disappointed! 5 Stars all the way!! This book continues Samantha and Christos’s story. I liked how the author flipped to the past and told Christos’s story about what happened that first day he met Samantha. I was constantly on edge, just wanting him to tell Sam what was going on with him so that she could help him. Like most men, he was being stubborn. LOL. Sam is still struggling with following her own dreams versus doing what her parents are trying to make her do as well as trying to balance school, work and her relationship with Christos. I loved this book but was left speechless by the cliffhanger.  I absolutely cannot wait until the next book comes out!! ~Kendra

Synopsis

Samantha and Christos ARE BACK!!!!

“I’ve never given my heart to anyone, agápi mou.
You are my first. And you will be my last.
You are my forever.”

- Christos Manos, in RECKLESS

Now that Samantha Smith has confronted the demons from her dark past in FEARLESS, she’s excited to jump into adulthood with newfound confidence and friends Romeo, Madison, and Kamiko.

Samantha passionately hopes that her dreams of becoming an artist are more than girlish fancy. All she has to do for them to come true is change her major from Accounting to Art. When she finally reveals her decision to her parents, they fly off the handle and take drastic action.

Christos Manos, the ultimate bad-boy boyfriend, is committed to staying by Samantha’s side, nurturing her and helping her discover her potential, no matter what obstacles are thrown in her way.

When Samantha’s life starts to unravel, Christos is the only person she can turn to for the emergency support she needs. But he’s fighting his own dark demons and tangled secrets he’s kept hidden from the beginning. Circumstances quickly spiral out of control, threatening to fracture their fledgling love beyond repair and steal Christos away from her permanently.

Samantha will be tested to the limits of her resilience, and must discover how truly Fearless she can be in the name of love.

WARNING!! The steam factor in RECKLESS will be significantly steamier than it was in FEARLESS.

Fearless Synopsis
After moving from stuffy Washington D.C. to laid back San Diego, Samantha Smith hopes to shed her troubled past and reinvent herself as a freshman at San Diego University.

Her parents are pressuring her to major in Accounting, because it’s the safe thing to do. But Samantha really wants to try something more adventurous.

When she crosses paths with a handsome tattoo-clad bad boy, her life is turned upside down, and Samantha finds herself juggling more adventure than she ever dreamed possible.

Fearless Review
I give Fearless 5 stars! I haven’t read many books like this by male authors, but Devon did a great job writing Samantha’s story.  She moved to San Diego from DC for college and a new beginning. I enjoyed the progression of Adonis and Sam’s relationship, it was much more realistic than the love-at-first-sight stories we read so often.  I liked her small group of friends. They were interesting and added comic relief. I think the struggle between being what her parents want her to be versus her actual wants and dreams is a real conflict that a lot of people can relate to. Samantha had a tragic event happen in her past that follows her to her new life.  At times, I just wanted her to spit it out so we knew what happened to her, but it was totally worth the wait! This book had me laughing, frustrated, tearing up and happy. I can’t wait for the next book in the series to see how things progress and if that past mistake catches up to her again. ~Kendra

About Devon Hartford
A lot of people ask me, “Why is a guy writing romance novels for women?”

The answer is simple. Everyone falls in love. Even Men.
Imagine that. ;)

Of course, I’m half-joking, but also half-serious. Most men behave as if they have no emotions and certainly never—GASP!—talk about them. Men control their emotions. No man is a man if he lets his emotions get the best of him, right? Men conquer their emotions.

Hardly.

Emotions are as much a part of a man’s human experience as they are a woman’s. I’m sure the specifics are as different as individual people can be. But if a man wants to have a complete experience as a human being, he must embrace his emotional nature and learn to understand it.

What better way to explore emotions than to focus on stories centering around emotional experiences? Including the most intense emotional experience of all, love?
Having read a slew of New Adult romances in the past year, I noticed again and again that these novels dealt with the repressed pain of emotional scars and how love can help heal our wounds. Everyone has emotional scars. Women and men. Everyone hopes to heal, and a loving relationship can be a conduit for both partners to heal together.
My own stories feature characters who are on a quest to heal their pain. I believe this is a universal desire. It’s my hope that readers of my stories may heal in some small way or gain some perspective regarding their own emotional wounds.
